First, and totally off topic, please stop posting those freaking kruezer tweets, people. The dude is leeching fandom hits. He doesn't know anything. :P

Okay, so I promised y'all I'd think more about a possible GayGen Challenge community. And wow, a lot of things to consider. I PMed the mod over at [livejournal.com profile] queerlygen to make sure it would not be a problem to start a Supernatural only community. Haven't received a reply yet, so I'll let you know.

I was reading some of that comms specifications about what could be in a Gen story. They would allow sex. The vibe I'm getting from the comments here is that explicit sex is the one thing we don't consider Gen. But I could be misinterpreting. I think to do this right, we need to get a working definition of Gen. So, there are options for what could and could not be considered Gen in the poll. Also, it's early, and my brain is not yet firing on all cylinders, so feel free to add more suggestions in the comments.

Some of you said you'd like to help out in this endeavor if I decided to do it. Still haven't decided if I will, but there's a question about how you'd like to be involved. Also, a friend suggested a sort of rotating modship, like taking turns hosting challenges and whatnot, keeping the challenge length short enough so as not to be overwhelming. I like the idea, so if you say you want to join as a mod, would you be interested in taking turns running the comm?

My feeling is that stories posted could have any number of pairings so long as at least one is same sex or transgendered. But that's my feeling. I want to know what you think. So answer away, and feel free to link, I guess.

my two cents worth? a gaygen fic contains 1) at least one non-het pairing 2) fits the guidelines of G or PG-13 ratings 3) may have implied but not explicit sex scenes.

Also? I think that to keep any wank down, it might be a good idea to state any stories that are posted that do not meet the criteria will be edited to show a strikethrough on the post and the poster will be given 24 or 48 hours to correct the problem(s) or the story will be removed. This way the comm can see why the mod has an issue with the story.

I am thinking specifically of a small flap a while back now, where somebody had a story that contained something along the lines of "Dean nearly creamed in his pants" It was one line that was not appropriate for the rating the author had given it and the story got yanked. I could see both sides of the arguement, yes it was one line but yes it was not appropriate for the rating.

again, just my two cents worth!

A gen story, to me, can include any pairing (well, not RPS or wincest, of course, but you get my meaning), as long as there's nothing graphic. I don't care if they go at it like monkies behind the scenes as long as the most I'll get is... well, they went at it like monkies the night before and now it's the day after.

I don't know if I'd join such a comm, but I would watch it.

Also, for me, challenges should not be award challenges. Personally, while it is awesome to win, not winning is disappointing enough for me not to want to enter a challenge again. It's about winning instead of writing. But that's just me.

My brain equates Gen!fic with fic that doesn't hit a raiting higher than a PG-13 movie would. Can there be a little skin showing, some flirting, some UST? Sure, why not, as long as your characters don't turn into complete sex pots in the next scene. But I have been in communities before where Gen meant no pairing whatsoever, just happy happy joy joy friends who maybe get together for a beer and have a rather superficial coexistence with each other. Do I think people constantly need to be paired off with one another? Not at all...but it's nice to see relationships between people as part of the fabric of the story.

I think award challenges tend to breed hate and discontent without realizing it. I mean, really, who wants their story to become the last one picked for the dodgeball team because the more popular fics felt sorry for it, ya know? Much better if people write because they want to write and not because they want to be seen as "the bestest writer evah."

As for a name, genteellygay is the only thing I came up with off the top of my head. I could totally see myself mod-ing a community with that name. LOL
