Something Golden, 1-4/4, R, Sam/Dean
Jul. 30th, 2008 05:10 pmTitle: Something Golden (Conversations from the End)
Author:
tru_faith_lost
Artist:
bittersweet_art, She did an amazing job. I hope the story lives up to her art.
Rating: R (I fail)
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Warnings: Language, m/m sex, incest
Words: ~43,000
Summary: In the end, Dean and Sam take on Hell together, and when it falls, they climb out together, worse for wear, but whole, which is more than can be said for the rest of the world. The landscape's marred, sepia-toned with black clouds above, no sun, no moon, winter, or spring, just the endless road and red-lightning overhead. But it's all theirs. Months of driving, dodging the daily bouts of acid rain and eating out of cans and convenience stores, and Sam's ready for more. He's just not sure what more is until Dean stops breathing on the floor of a motel room in Texas. The world they can lose, but never each other. If Dean can handle a Sam that wants to hold tight when no one's dying and there's nowhere to go, then Sam can deal with a Dean who paints rainbows in a sky with no sun. And maybe what's gold will stay this time around.

spn_j2_bigbang challenge. This story is written purposely on the fringes of believability for reasons I name in the extended author notes at the end of the story. If you're one of those people who stops reading the second something seems unlikely or improbable, I only ask that you have a little faith and hang out for the end. Or, you know, read the author notes first, but that will spoil the story.

Something Gold Soundtrack
Jul. 30th, 2008 01:01 amI've never done a soundtrack before, but I had a few songs in mind, being that the original prompt was the first song on the track. I started asking around, and who knew there were so many songs that would fit with this story? This is a zip file, about 160MB. All the songs are Sam POV, since that's how the story is written. I hope there are at least a few on here that you haven't heard and learn to love.
Again, many thanks to
3rd_leg who sent me or recced me at least half of the songs on this list. Anything that's awesome and not a cheesy 80's song or a chick song was totally hers first.
And the art is all
bittersweet_art. She's amazing! You can snag it here, just don't hotlink, and if there's enough demand, I'll upload it in a zip file for you.

Note: This file is missing two songs due to changing computers and whatnot. The missing songs are Susan Enan's "Bring on the Wonder," and Sarah McLachlan's "Witness." I have Witness on my comp, just forgot to put it in the file if anyone desperately wants it, but I can't find Bring on the Wonder anywhere, and it makes me sad, because I love that song.

DVD Extras--commentary and missing scenes
Jul. 14th, 2008 07:32 pmTo begin, I need to say that you definitely shouldn't read these author notes without first reading the story, though I wouldn't be opposed to you reading the story, reading the notes, and then going back and reading the story again. I'd actually encourage that. To be honest, I've never read the story from beginning to end. I can't seem to make more than five thousand words at a time without wanting to change something, and I just can't do it anymore.
I'm hoping you have at least a few questions about the story after finishing it, because I left some things deliberately ambiguous. I'm not usually someone who grabs the reader by the ear and says, “This is what the story is about, and I know, because I wrote it.” I believe people read things in ways that are meaningful to them. So, if you like the story as it's written, are completely happy with your understanding of it, then don't read these notes. If you had a least a few bugs in your ear at the end that made you cock your head sideways and squint real hard like you were missing something, then please read on.
