It seems to me like the photo ops from earlier cons had more stringent rules about what was and was not inappropriate contact. It's only been the last few cons where the poses and interaction have been getting really snuggly and somewhat more intimate.

I think it's great that the guys, and Jensen in particular are more comfortable with fans now and that they're willing to be hugged and snuggled up with, and I get that people pay for the photo tickets and want the same experience other fans have had.

But seriously, no one is entitled to get to touch the guests. You get a picture. And if there's one thing I've had beaten into my head from years and years of working in manufacturing, it's that nothing bad ever happens when you're wary and cautious. It's when you start to get comfortable and let down your guard that something happens. Best case scenario, someone gets their feel on, worst case... well, I don't even want to say. If you don't want people to build a bomb, you don't put the instructions on the internetz, yes?

I don't blame her at all, and I don't think for a minute that she did what she did because she hates his fans.

And that's all I'm going to say. Keep the wank to a dull roar and out of my space.

It's disappointing, I hope you can at least put your arm around them at Asylum, but if you can't I understand. It's nothing new..at the first David Boreanaz Con I went to we just had to sit next to him..no touching. At the second with James Masters they both sat, you stood behind and put your arms around their shoulders..but they didn't touch you.

At the photo op at Asylum I wasn't sure what to do, it was Jensen who pulled me in to his side and put his arm around me.

Well, if anyone defriends you over making a reasonable, logical comment, you're not losing much. I read that one of the Con security(?) people had blamed Danneel for the "no-touching" rule, but we can't be certain that's not just speculation on that person's part, either. (Danneel pretty much should just design her own t-shirt saying "Scapegoat" with this fandom.) I think it's nice that the boys do get more relaxed around the fans, but there are obviously still security concerns - Jensen did mention the Flying Fangirl incident again, so that's obviously left an indelible mark on his fandom experience. But I agree with you 100%. So can I friend you rather than defriend you? ;-)

Yeah, I might be a little biased because I'm not a touchy feely person myself. (I've been know to tell people I'm private property and to keep their hands off.) But there are any number of reasons why the no-touching rule would be prudent and practical. The boys do us a huge service by making themselves available. It's not unfair of them to keep some personal space personal. And if they've been a little desensitized to the whole experience (after all they're the ones who sit through hundreds of them) that doesn't mean there still shouldn't be some caution executed. We don't know why she was "upset." We can't just assume she's being "mean" or even "evil" as I saw someone else call her. Really, EVIL. *shakes head*

And the saddest thing is, I was watching that Twitter thread when that report came through, and it was full of glee, squee, yay! No one seemed that upset about the no touch rule, yet the name was mentioned, and people could not let it go.

That's the gyst of it. One person's word. And I'm not even saying it isn't true, just that I'm sure she didn't stand up and say "no touching or else I'm taking him and we're leaving," and then con security magically said, "as you wish." I'm sure there was discussion and a genuine reason for her to be upset. We don't know what transpired at all, except that con security agreed it was a good policy, and from what I know of con etiquette outside of this fandom, that's not an uncommon policy at all.

Some of my friends and I had a discussion one night about how hokey the security is at those things, and how anyone who really wanted to cause them harm totally could. I think we scared ourselves a little, but that doesn't mean it's not true. The fans are right there, definitely within touching distance even if they're not touching. And no obsessed fan has ever done harm to the object of their obsession in the past, right?

Um, and sure, friend away if you like. I've seen you around in ysbail and hemrage's journals. I'll friend back, but I'm warning you, I'm mostly on hiatus until I can do something other than whine about bigbang. My posts are few and far between at the moment.

That's why I love you so. Man, I just posted a similar comment yesterday to a friend's locked entry. Over there, someone was talking about how the gfs make things uncomfortable and implied that they should get to touch the boys in the photo-ops.

I basically said you're paying for a PHOTO-OP not a TOUCHING-OP. Sometimes, the sense of entitlement just gets me boggled.

the way I see this, each Con is different, each has its own, hmm, feeling.

You know how the Chicago Con went down, eps. when it comes with Photo Ops. At that time, I didn`t dare to even touch Jensen, although he did it himself sometimes, asked for it or not.
I didn`t ask, I didn`t do anything in Chicago. I just went in, said "hi", picture, done, next.

In LA, things where different. In LA there was a Jensen who did a 180 degree turn, compared to Chicago 08.

All smiling, cracking jokes, laughing. Laughing about himself, and others. Pulling funny faces. Even at the breakfast already, althoug he confessed he overslept that day.

So the LA Photo Ops was, different. The entiere Con itself, was different, esp. compared to other SPN Cons.

Actually it was what I was used too from Stargate and Farscape Cons, esp from those Cons held in California. California is always different, for whatever the reason.

For me, I can feel it if something isn`t allowed, or if something is wrong to ask for.

like in Chicago. I thought he doesn`t feel this comfortable, so I held back. I`m not one to jump someone in the first place myself.

In LA, everyone was "what the hell, lets do this".

and they said "NO way" also more than one time. So, everyone only does what they want to do.

I was more than happy to see Danneel in LA. I was too shy myself to actually talk to her. This I regret, because she seemed so lost during the autograph session.
I can see why she wants to spend as much time with Jensen as possible.

if she really was around during the Sydney Photo ops, was it a wise move to do so? I don`t know.

Asylum 3 is going to be another Con, a different Country, new rules.

I go with these "Con feeling " rules at A3. I`m already happy I can take a closer look at this pair of green eyes again. This is all that I need to make me happy *rofl*

I would not mind having her around during the A3 Photo Ops, not at all.

Doesn`t matter if the Girlfriend, wife or whatever is around or not. At the end the boys only do what they want to do at that particular time anyway.

As well as everyone else, SPN actor, or not. No one does something they feel uncomfortable with.

I find it ridiculous. No one knows the whole story so why jump to conclusions? She seems like a nice enough person, and in all honesty I never heard anything really bad about her. Oh so she was at a con? Wow what a terrible person. =P
Normally I don't care or pay that close attention to who they are dating or whatever, that is their business, not mine. And live by the, "If they are happy that is all that matters to me."
But with all the hate I am seeing the more and more I seem to like her. And of course she is crazy hot too! LOL

Exactly about the "not a TOUCHING-OP." I can almost swear that I read somewhere that the rules for photo ops were pretty stringent. Though, I'm too lazy to go looking now, and I've only read Creation site, so there's no guarantee there's a similar policy there, anyway. I was a little surprised at how lax the rules seemed to be in Chicago, but it was my only convention. Now, it seems like the fans know the rules are lax and have almost turned it into a dog and pony show, some competition over who can get the most unusual picture, and honestly, some of the pictures that come back from these things make me cringe for them. They're awfully good sports for not putting their own foots down, in my opinion.

As far as Dreamwidth. The whole concept kinda weirds me out. First of all, this is a permanent journal, and I figure it will be here long after there's no fandom. I don't want or need a fandom only journal, and I guess if fandom migrates away, then I just won't be in fandom anymore. Plus, yesterday I was deleting emails because my inbox was overflowing (4000 plus emails) and I'd guess well over 90 percent were LJ notifications. If that doesn't tell me that this is my home, then I don't know what it does say. And it'd be one thing if I was going over there to join a whole new group of people, because I'm all for branching out and seeing the world, but it seems like it's just people from LJ, and I don't love anybody enough that I need to read their posts twice. I also don't love anybody enough to follow them if they leave LJ completely.

There's also the issue of not being able to afford another paid account. I have to be reasonable, I guess.

Hehe, I love to read your novels. And I know you go to these things all the time, so I'm really glad you weighed in.

I think, as others have said, there must have been something that happened the day before. She didn't just get upset because, "OMG, they're touching my baby." And it does seem like the fans get "cheekier" as more of these things come around. Part of that is getting to see the videos and feeling like we've done it before, even if we really haven't. I would not be surprised at all if something did happen to make him uncomfortable and she just stood by her man. I could, of course, be completely wrong, because no one knows her side of the story, which is why people should not be jumping on her. I mean, really, "evil"? And this from fans with extremely questionable behavior themselves. It makes me sad. Sigh.

*glomps you* I hope you have a ton of fun at A3 and get great pics. I haven't had a chance to look at all the ones from LA, but I loved what I saw. Hee!

Well, since mini_moue pretty much summed it up in her comment, I guess I can explain. Apparently the AHBL con adopted a "no touch" policy for the J2 photo ops yesterday. One of the con-goers asked someone from security why they did that, and security apparently told her because Danneel got upset the day before. But that's all we know. I dont' think the person who reported it lied. She seems like a nice girl. But that's only a small part of the story. We don't know what Danneel was upset about, and it's not right for people to bash her and blame her for "ruining" their con experience. And really it was only that one comment on all of the twitter I read. Most of the people had an awesome time. I don't know why people feel the need to dwell on the negative. *squishes you*

LOL, me too! I think maybe I'm just contrary, and the more people tell me to hate something, the more I like it. Sadly the opposite is also true, which is why I love Sam a whole lot more when I dont' have someone telling me why I have to. I guess I'm a firm heel-dragger when it comes to people trying to sway my opinion. Or maybe I'm just a bitch. Meh.

First of all, I really wish people would stop jumping to conclusions and passing judgement because of something they've seen/read/heard small tidbits of. It's one thing I seriously don't get because, hello, there's always more than one side to things and unless something is straight from the horse's mouth then that something can be considered as having gone through a filter of perception. And true or not (that Danneel actually said that, that is, I don't believe the twitter was lying) she'll have had her reasons... even if she didn't and was being completely irrational then that would still be okay 'cause, well, you pay for a photo not hugging or snuggling or whatever. No false advertisment there, they can do what they want. No reason to hate her either. I don't understand when people get all upset or offended about something the guys do or say either. I mean, they're people. People have a right to have unpopular opinions, bad days and good days and weird habbits. Just... ugh, wish there would be less judging and hating all the time.

before I get back to you for real *g*, by now there is a new story around because of this.
Apparently the Asylum folks (people who bought the tickets) got scared because of A3, and started asking questions because of the "no touching" rule in Sydney, and if this would be the case at A3 also.

Someone over there said the "don`t touch" thing was applied in Sydney because Jared was cornered by a fan, and he didn`t want this to happen again. Then, bang, new rules.

And that Danneel just had happened to step out of the Photo ops room right after the no touch rule was announced, wrong place, wrong time.
sooo, two different stories already.

I`ve heard things in LA because of EyeCon, this would make your ears ring. 3rd hand. First hand was Jared, 2nd was someone from Creation, 3rd was me. But I`m not going to spill it, NO way.
I`m not one to tell stuff like this, and what happend because of Sydney reminds me why.

On the one hand I totally understand. Even the fact that they're willing to take pictures with fans is a blessing, and I understand that there needs to boundaries, and I understand her need to remind people of them. Then again, the fans pay hundreds of dollars to come see them and I don't think a simple hug or an arm around the shoulder is too much to ask for that, you know?

I also don`t think it was because of her. Not only because of the "new storie" which is around, but in general.
Jensen is a grown up, as well as Jared, and everyone else. They don`t do stuff, esp. during Photo ops, they don`t want to do, simple as that.

I`ve done a lot of Cons, all sorts of fandoms, and I`ve never before experienced something like with the SPN Cons. Some people are plain crazy. Everything that has happened after LA, because of Danneel, this made me feel so sorry for not only her, but Jensen also.

In LA we had a blast. I`ve never laughed so much during a Photo Ops session as in LA. And a huge reason why had been both, Jared and Jensen.
Everyone was so relaxed and easy going, I just had to grab the chance to bag the pictures I wanted to have. Everyone was just, haha, lets do this, who cares.

but at the end, if they don`t want to do certain things, they don`t do it. And it is easy to blame someone like Danneel when things don`t turn out as people thought they would.

I KNOW because they have been the way they where in LA, it might not be the case at A3 also.

Different Con.

I`ve never had a Con myself where the "don`t touch" rule was applied, but it has happend before. Not SPN, but still.

I always have the Stargate Cons in mind, Creation and Wolfevents, which might be a mistake on my side. Because at the SG Cons everyone is more than open, and doesn`t spend a 2nd thought about anything.
They don`t kiss during Photo ops, or lift people up. Beside this, you can do pretty much everything. But with SPN, things seem to be different, for whatever the reason.

IMO people freak out because of J², and then afterwards are dissapointed because they let an opportunity slip away.

A friend of mine was in Sydney, and what little she told in her journal so far, esp. because of her Photo ops with Jensen, combined with the new story, this makes me think it wasn`t Danneel but maybe Jared who was responsible, with reason *!!!* for the don`t touch rule.

So Danneel is an easy target, again, and certain people felt the need to jump her again.

And even if she was a reason why, who cares. These are real people, with real feelings, and everyone has to respect that.
Is it unfair for those who bought the tickets? up to certain amount, yes. If she can not take people touching her boy, stay away, simple as that.
At the end of the day he`ll be with her again anyway.

All of this reminds me, again, why I want to stay under the radar inside the SPn fandom. As much as possible.

A3, I really hope the Con will turn out okay. Jeez, 1400 tickets sold, no reserved seats *eek* And I take my boy also. He has never been to the UK before, never has been at a Con with this many people around.

I try my best with taking pictures at A3 *g*

and I have a lot more form LA wich I still have to upload and post.

Yeah, that's what gets me, too. People should not be passing judgment based on such a small, one-sided point, and even then, why are people who weren't even there getting defensive for their friends not getting to touch the boys, when most everything I read sounds like everyone had an awesome time regardless of the rule.

Yeah, it's not too much to ask, but it's also not such a big deal if they don't get their hug or whatever. As a person who's kind of hug-o-phobic, you'd have to pay me quite a lot to get my picture taken with people I didn't know clinging to me. I know that's their lifestyle choice to be in the public eye, but you wouldn't go to a red carpet affair and no expect to be kept behind the line. Just getting to stand next to them is waaaaayyy more contact with them than most people get with their celeb crushes.

As for the Danneel part of it, if kj_svala is right, then it didn't even start with her, and it's sad that people find any reason at all to bash on her. I'm pretty sure I come off as a bitch to a lot of people, too. I'd hope people I've never even met would give me the benefit of the doubt, ya know? And let's face it, this story leaves room for doubt.

DW doesn't have anything I can't get here, so I'm definitely not going. If fandom does migrate, I don't believe I'll be following. It's an addiction I really need to curb, LOL.

Totally! I mean even if she did want them to not touch Jensen she prob has her reason but of course there are many stories of what happened, and what makes me mad is yes I know you are excited bout seeing them but me speaking from experience I was totally out of it when I saw Jensen but yet I didn't grope him or anything what people need to realize is they are still humans and as any human being some may not want to be touched in odd area's, or even be touched by that matter, I just don't get people and I'm saying this goes for all fans of different celebrities.

Oh, I know. I'm so not into hugs. I mean, I'll hug someone if they expect it, because people think you're a weirdo for not liking hugs, but I'm more likely to say... "uh, private property, k?" if someone I don't know (or even someone I do know) touches me without good reason. The boys must have pretty tough skins to do what they do, but that doesn't mean it doesnt get to be too much sometimes.
