Anybody have Rough Draft and Windows Vista? Are the two compatible?

I'm going computer shopping today and everything has Vista unless I wanna fork over for XP downgrade. I would hate if Rough Draft didn't work, but I guess sacrifices... *ponders*

I don't have vista, or RD, but another thing to consider is vista's compatibility (or rather, incompatibility) with other, more important things, like printers and some outside hard drives. Make sure your printer is vista compatible first.
I'd go with the downgrade anyway.

Yeah, I'm considering that. I am actually terrified of Vista, but I'm reading a lot of customer reviews and most of them say it's not that bad and most of the bugs have been worked out. My printer and scanner are pretty new, so even if they're not compatible, I can download the Vista drivers off their websites. Thank God, Dan insisted on getting expensive name brands, which I usually hate about him, lol.

I'd just hate to pay for a downgrade and then have XP become obsolete. What really bugs me is I have the XP discs that came with my current computer but they put the certificate on a little sticker and didn't attach it to a computer. I highly doubt that I can still find that stupid little sticker after all these years.

No idea if it will work or not, sorry.

I was lucky enough to get a Windows XP Laptop last year, from a small Computer Company in a town near by.

Because, no way I`m going to use Vista. Non of my main programs would work just like that with Vista, I`d need to get an upgrade for each. If there is any Vista Upgrade that is.

And before I do so, and burdon myself with Vista on top, I`ll buy a Mac.

Well, I'd never jump to Mac, but I am afraid of Vista. :S I'm reading a lot of customer reviews and whatnot, though, and most of them say that most of the bugs are worked out, and the few programs I do use are compatible.

I'm just hoping I don't end up fighting with Vista and then have Windows 7 come out at the end of this year and end up going to that instead.

If I didn't have to get a new computer right now, I'd probably wait for Windows 7 and avoid Vista, but that's all based on word of mouth from people who got Vista when it first came out. I'm hearing its much better now.

I have Rough Draft on my Vista machine, so yes, they are compatible. :)

Oh, thank goodness. One less thing to worry about. :) Thank you. The Rough Draft Website only lists up to XP.

Yay! I'm happy, because for basic word processing I haven't found anything I like as well as Rough Draft. So many handy little tools, and it's all free, free, freeeeeeee!

Um, I don't have First Draft if you're talking about the screenwriting software, so I wouldn't be able to answer any questions about that.

Can't give any advice as for the program...

Anyway I bought my computer without OS and installed XP afterwards :D
Or you could wait for Windows 7. It's supposed to be much better than Vista.

Well, I don't know anywhere you can do that here. And it kinda bugs me, because, like I told someone else, I have the XP disks that I got with this computer, but I'll be darned if I know where the certificate is for them. *sigh*

I wish I could wait, but my computer is barely wheezing along now. LOL.

The current version of Vista isn't bad at all. As much as I love XP, the support just isn't going to be there for much longer, sadly. I'd bite the bullet and go for Vista, as Windows 7 when it comes out is going to be buggy initially anyway, so a stable version of Vista is a better option. Plus, on a completely shallow note, Vista looks gorgeous and is easy to use once you get past the differences in operation from XP. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Ooh, you're so encouraging. *glomps you* Yeah, I've read a ton of customer reviews, and most of them say it's no big deal at all. One or two said they dumped it for Ubuntu, lol, but I have no idea what that is, so NO, not going there. I'm thinking I really don't have a choice but to try it. *crosses fingers*

Just make sure that you DO NOT get the "home edition." Go with Premium or whatever... and you should be good.

Ooh, okay, so since you sound like you know, what's the difference between Home basic, and Home Premium?

Date: 2009-05-23 12:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] samidha.livejournal.com
Oh okay that's what I meant... sorry... Home Premium is better. I don't actually run it... (I have a Mac but I am going back soon because ugh.)

But basically the support for premium is better. And Home Basic is left to be buggier.

Everyone I know with Basic is miserable, everyone I know with Premium is happy. :D

(DAMMIT I was just thinking I need an icon of yellow-shirt Sam! LOL!)

LOL, you so do need a Sam Wesson icon.

Good to know, because I'm kinda hovering around three options, and two have home basic and one has home premium. The one with home premium, is of course, the most expensive, but it's supposed to run slower because it has an AMD processor instead of Intel. To be honest, though, my comp has been crawling along at a snail's pace for so long, just about anything's gonna end up feeling like a zephyr.

But if I get the one with home premium, I'mma have to wait to buy a router, cuz I know can afford both. LOL. Decisions, decisions.

I don't know about that program, but Vista isn't too terrible. I prefer XP of course, but there are settings set to make it look more like XP.
I think the thing I hate the most is the way they have the folders set up, but I pretty much avoid it because I have everything on my external hard drive including My Documents folder, so I just bypass Vista's folders completely.

I'm sure your programs and whatnot will work. I haven't had any program problems on Vista. And I use a few really old programs from the 90s and everything works.

Well, I got my comp, and I'm on it now. So far, I haven't really encountered any problems with Vista. So yay! I also downloaded Avira. You're the one who recced it right? Thanks. I so wanna get rid of the Norton ASAP.

Yep yep that was me. I love it and I hope you like it. I think the only downfall is when I wake up in the mornings, after it runs, there is a pop up advertising the premium version. Which in one quick click it goes away. =)
