*is teary eyed*
Feb. 15th, 2009 03:11 amGuys, late night television is murder on softies like me.
I just watched Blindsided on HBO.
You should go to the site and read the official synopsis, especially the second paragraph which starts out:
"Blindsided" is a story of what happens when a family is faced with the unforeseen, the unimaginable. It is a story of a father whose depression and blame rip apart his family...It is a story about Jared, who loses his eyesight in the prime of his life and finds the courage and strength to bring everyone out of the darkness.
I usually don't say, hey, someone write me disability fic, but this... It could be an awesome Supernatural Gen fic, or it could be amazing J2, with Jensen in the part of Ali the best friend...
Made me cry, dammit, and I'm supposed to be writing something naughty. *bangs head*
Hope you all had a great V-day. I've been trying to stay away, because fandom stuff is making me pull out my hair just lately. God, we need new episodes now.
*smooshes you all*
And I know this post is entirely pointless, but you should all at least go and hunt down this movie. I love true stories. *wipes tear*
ETA: Also, awhile back I mentioned that someone wanted to translate my fic, "Two Letters, Three Words" into... Chinese. I have some apprehension as to whether that fic CAN be translated because the whole plot of the fic is based on the fact that Dean calls Sam, Sammy, with the MY. And it really means, MY Sam. And I said if the original meaning of the fic could be preserved, it would be okay. I remember at the time that someone on my flist volunteered to read it over for me and tell me if it is true to the original. It's been over a year, though, and I've forgotten who it was. If there's anyone on my flist who speaks/reads Chinese and is familiar with that story, I'd be greatly indebted to you if you could give it a look see. She's just gotten the translation back to me. And I don't even have a language pack installed that lets me see it. LOL *begs* There might be a request in it for you, if you've got the patience of Job.

Date: 2009-02-15 09:58 am (UTC)Also the best friend Ali is Muslim and the family Jewish, and that was also a very inspirational side story that could totally make it work as J2.
Plus, you know, the kid's name is Jared...

Date: 2009-02-15 10:05 am (UTC)I actually have a soft spot for disability in film. I once watched 20 films and did a paper on them for college. :D
Back before I imploded... *sigh*
I wonder if I could download this thing... *keeps eyes peeled on iheartcinema* *is still evil*

Date: 2009-02-15 10:11 am (UTC)As far as your comment though: dude, that totally made me think of deaf!Jared, and how he'd be different if he wasn't running his mouth all the time... *squints at self* I clearly have a running theme... And yet I feel like I'm encroaching and doing evil deeds if I even glance over a J2... *headdesks* Well, I did read some movie retellings, which I loved. Hee. But I am such a sucker for movies.

Date: 2009-02-15 10:17 am (UTC)J2 is not cheating. It's branching out.

Date: 2009-02-15 10:24 am (UTC)It's less that it feels like cheating and more that, especially with stuff like h/c my brain goes like, "but these are real people and you're talking about seriously traumatic shit happening to them, and I don't know how you mean that...
I mean especially because I've found some scary stuff, and it feels more ...real to me because they are real people, you know, and... yeah.
I mean, obviously, it stems from my own inability to separate fictional!J2 from real!J2, so t that's my own damage. But it still seems presumptuous and weird to me all the same. :/ Which isn't a judgment against people who *don't* feel that way, 'cause gods know I've got more J2ers than Sam/Dean shippers on my flist. But yeah.

Date: 2009-02-15 10:28 am (UTC)I get inspirations all the time, like
how incredibly easy it would be for one of them to be hurt doing a fan conventionbut I worry about people reading that stuff and getting ideas... Y'know, not a problem with fans going out and plotting to attack Dean and Sam since they aren't real, but I certainly wouldn't want to put that idea into anyone's head when I have no idea what kind of heads are reading it.Also, do you know anyone who reads Chinese? LOL. I totally ETAed this post.

Date: 2009-02-15 10:39 am (UTC)I did take a ridiculously small amount of Chinese in high school through bizarre happenstance but all I remember how to do is count to about five and say thank you. *grin* In Mandarin.
Hopefully whoever it was will see this though!
Yeah--agreed... it's weird... I can't even really get into the AUs yet, because I'm like "but... they're... this is not them!" LOL. So I very warily read a few non-AUs and am very, very nervous doing so and very on guard for possible torture porn and stuff... And it overall just makes me a really jumpy person.
But I'm at the point now where I'm running low on SPN fics I like, especially since I'm meh about S4... so... I could see myself definitely branching out more as the SPN fics I like continue to dwindle. *crosses self reflexively* *twitches* Good thing I don't believe in Hell I guess. LOL.

Date: 2009-02-15 02:49 pm (UTC)Wow, I'm so happy that someone translated your fic into a different language. Too bad I don't speak Chinese, though, so I can't check it for you.
:D

Date: 2009-02-15 04:34 pm (UTC)I have such a hard time with disability fic. (I think we've talked about this.)
As for the Chinese, I don't blame you for being leery. I know you've seen those things where they make fun of bad translations, or even just try to read the instructions for assembling something made over there. Notoriously weird, much less for one where the English actually matters. *shrugs*

Date: 2009-02-15 09:13 pm (UTC)And yes, the Chinese thing kinda worries me, although she did send me the translation, and even though I can't see the Chinese because of I don't have the right language packs or whatever, it looks like all the names are still in English, so it might work. It's just that story is specifically ABOUT the letters which are English letters, so I worry.
*smishes*

Date: 2009-02-16 04:39 am (UTC)I thought it was awesome that the dad called Shinedown and Jared (the young man that went blind) got to play with them twice. That totally rocked.
I second people checking out that documentary. It's very good.

Date: 2009-02-16 05:29 am (UTC)But like I said, she seems to have kept all the names in English, so maybe it's okay. *shrugs*
And I can't write that story. If I sit down and actually list all the fics I'm already writing I'll probably just delete my journal and join the Foreign Legion.

Date: 2009-02-16 07:51 am (UTC)Actually, what's worse is there is no alphabet in Chinese...

Date: 2009-02-16 07:42 am (UTC)Either way, if they kept the names in English, then the meaning may not totally be lost. But if they translated the names, I just can't think of a way that they could get the meaning across even if they phonetically translated 'Sam' like they do in the Cantonese dubbed version that is broadcasted overseas...
