There's a J and J Photo Op for sale on ebay.

Current sale price... $562.75.

Tell me Creation doesn't have a license to charge whatever it wants for these things. It makes me ill, and the more I see it, the more I know I won't be doing another one ever again, not even for Misha. Maybe a movie will shoot somewhere nearby and Misha will be cast, and I can go stalk him for free. LOL.

Oh, and some perspective...

Since the plant was closed for the last two weeks in December, and they only let us use vacation time for the first one, the paycheck I just got was for the 8 hours of paid vacation on January 1 only. It was a little over $35.00 after they took out taxes, 401k and insurance. And that's the biggest check I saw. Most of my coworkers got checks for less than a dollar.

Looks like it's the photo op equivalent of a scalped ticket - the person who's reselling it can charge whatever the market will bear, because the tickets are sold out? I'd never buy sports tickets for thousands of dollars, but I know people do.

At least if one gives money directly to the conventions for stuff, presumably some of it goes to the actors as well as all the other people who run the thing. I continue to be irrationally creeped out by the whole idea of cons. :)

That's exactly what it is, and I think Creation doesn't stop it because they're interested in seeing just how much people will pay for these things. As it is, they keep raising the prices, and they still sell out faster every time. *shakes head*

Jesus. The amt of money. Think of all the things you could do with that. It kind of hurts!

I know! And the scary thing is, people are allowed to buy photo ops without buying tickets to the convention, so they sell out almost immediately no matter what Creation charges for them, and the market's wide open for scalping. And seriously, some of these people go to every single one and still pay this much for a photo op. I don't understand, but I can say, it's definitely not worth all that. LOL.

I hope you have a blast at WinCon. I hear it's much more fan oriented. One of my friends was very disappointed she can't go this time.

Haha, well... I'd agree with you except, you know, for the part where I ain't gettin' any, lol. So, I'd probably pay that if it was really an option. LOL.

Do not judge me. *hides*

Stuff like this creeps me out. Mostly, that someone out there would pay this kind of money for this sort of thing. Just... in my part of the woods, you'd have to be mentally unstable to some degree. They're people, that's all. Yeah, they're damn fine looking and they're making us laugh and cry and we appreciate what they do but at the end of the day that's it. It scares me that people like the buyer is gonna be that close to them... and it makes me sad that said buyer is at a point in her/his life where they find that it's this much of a must to do this (he/she is not buyng a con experience of fun and whatnot, just a photo op!). If it's because the buyer is insanely rich, well, that money could have gone to something way better.

I like cons. I like cons when all they're asking for is pay for the work they do and when it's about having fun for all involved. Not money.

*rant over*

Photo ops are like seven seconds, and there are no redoes. If the pic is crap, you're stuck with it. No way it's worth that kind of money, but then a whole lot of what we spend money on these days is not worth what we pay.

We live in the land of ripoff. Sigh.

I'm not against doing and paying for these kind of things (I've done it in the past) but there has to be some sort of limit. The money needs to be at least resembling a fair deal in terms of what you get and what the money goes to. I realise that we spend money on a lot of unecessary crap or just pay overprice in generel but... these are not things. They're people. What freaks me out is that someone crazy enough to pay this amount of money for this is even allowed close to the guys. Also the Creation team is greedy as hell. It sucks that it has to be so that the rich get richer in all ways and the little fan who deserves it the most is stuck in back row of things.

Wow, I'm such a bitch tonight! And kinda judgemental too. Need sleep, lol.

Anyway, I'd go to a con for the con experience at this point but I'd probably opt out of stuff like this if those were the prices I'd have to pay. If so, spend the money on an a great night out with fellow fans. Now that'd be worth every penny, I'm sure!

Whoa. That's something else. I mean usually the convention expenses, photo tickets, pictures, the odd little piece of merchandise are the smallest part of my spendings, what with flying to a foreign country, expensive hotel and all that but Creation seriously tries to turn that principle around.

Only way I'm going to another of their cons is if I can make the Vancouver one and have that be summer vacation.

But compared to the British convention where you play 10-20 pounds for a photo op - which should be around 30-35 bucks maybe? - and autographs are free for everybody, it's a whole different world. I also like the concept to put "special events" like the little one hour meet with a star for 20 people up for raffle tickets and not for auction. Like that everybody has a chance to win that, not just the people who apparently grow money on trees.

Well, I think this ticket is being sold by an individual, not by Creation, but yeah, the normal price for a photo op is still twice what you mentioned for Asylum. And now people are buying photo ops ahead of time because they know they will sell out, so the actual con tickets are available long after there's any photos left. It's just. There's got to be a better way.

And I don't care who they are, seven seconds is not worth that much.

Hahahaha, a raffle. That's an awesome idea, but will never, ever happen. We working class peeps are just doomed to be screwed over no matter what.

Not with Creation anyway. They did it at Asylum when Jensen was there the first year and they had these "coffee lounges" which was like a little private hour-long panel with 10-15 fans. For all the other guests you could buy a ticket for ten pounds but they knew with Jensen those tickets would be gone in a heartbeat so they handed out free raffle tickets and the winners got to be in the coffee lounge. I think I bit in my ticket in frustration because the number right after mine was drawn. *g*

But I did buy a ticket for one with Sterling K. Brown which was really awesome. Maybe I can snatch Misha this years. *hopes*

I don't know what the law is in the U.S., but in Canada it's illegal to sell an event ticket for more than it's printed value unless you have a really good excuse like it's for charity or something...

From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
It's illegal here, too, but unless Creation blows the whistle on it, they'll still do it, and I doubt Creation will. I imagine they're trying to see how much people will actually pay for these things. *grumble*

Denmark too. People do it anyway, though :(

I don't understand stuff like that... I once won tickets to a Slip Knot concert which I had no interest in. Everyone was like: Sell them! You can get this much and this much! And I had to go wtf. because I'd gotten them for free. Why not just pass the gift on and make someone happy? Same thing when I had an extra Robbie Williams ticket. Someone offered me twice the value but I only took what I'd paid myself. Why the need to earn money on other people's happiness? I don't get it! The way the world works drives me nuts sometimes, I swear.

What I don't understand is how these tickets are being resold. Creation states on their site that all sales are final and non-transferable. Plus they check your ID at will call. So does this seller have special permission from creation to resell or are they just hoping that it all somehow works out?
Because seriously, I can be shady and buy extra photo ops and resell them for profit.

Well the person that buys it is even more stupid in my opinion soooo.

I mean especially in this economy.

It looks like they'll be restructering at work soon and isn't that always a joy so I'll be waiting to see how that goes.

I would have though they would've not taken out like 401 or something on those checks just as common sense.

OTOH, whoever's selling it will presumably make a chunk of change, so maybe it's a good investment from the seller's point of view. :)

If someone buys it, they're pretty insane:/ That's like the cost of the hotel with meals at Asylum for the 3 of us, so paying that for 30 seconds for a pic where your eyes might end up closed or there might be something stuck on your nose is pretty silly.

The same person is auctioning one Gold Weekend pass; so far one bidder at $400 flat.

She refers to the photo op in that listing as "the J&J sandwich." Whee.
