I hardly ever do this, but if I don't, well you'll all be missing out, like whoa.

I just spent the last 11 or 12 hours reading the best fanfiction I have ever read in this fandom, bar none.

And I know most of you haven't read it. I know most of you won't read it, and that's a real shame. I don't heap praise ever, not on anything unless it's something I think is just heads and heads and heads above the rest.

So, I'm not putting any description here. I'm not listing pairings or warnings. My advice to you... set your mind to the most open setting it has, click on the link and start reading.

I will say it's Supernatural AU, and it's not Gen, but it's not wincest. In my opinion, anyone should be able to read and enjoy this story if they're willing to accept it as AU.

So full of detail without being at all slowed down by flowery metaphors or anything pretty at all. It's spare. Blunt. Perfect. So, yeah, 80,000 words of spare, blunt, and perfect, is a little like information overload. I have a serious headache from reading it straight through. Just the amount of research that went into this probably took longer than all the writing I did last year. For realz.

I realize I have no power in this fandom and that my opinion counts for squat, but if you don't try this story, you're missing out. OH, and it's complete. So, Yay!

You know, I was thinking of reading this but I wasn't sure... but now that it has your stamp of approval it's going to happen. LOL.

Not sure exactly when, because I am trying to bust out fics and I've got two beta assignments right now, one of which is kind of intensive. But it is on the radar!

From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
YOu totally should. It's totally not something I would normally read. I saw it was completed and wondered how something got to be 80000 words long without me having read any of it, and then I saw the pairings and warnings and said, "oh yeah, I've seen this, probably not my thing," but I wanted to read something. (No, I wasn't procrastinating, that was just a nice bonus, lol) and it was complete, so I shut my eyes, clicked on the link and started reading. LOL.

So glad I did.

:D I love that feeling.

I am greatly looking forward to it now (and I don't mind Dean/OMC, especially not in an AU. Am intrigued. Also I hear a rumor of tattoos, which....nnnnggggg... *grins*)

Date: 2008-12-30 07:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Haha, yes, there are tattoos. Not exactly the hot, sexy, kinky kind, but they definitely bear mentioning (and I'm drawing a total blank as to which form of the word bear is appropriate in this sentence, lol.)

That's okay... ;) I gather that it's similar in intent to another fic I really love so... yeah. I dunno. I just like the significance. Anyway. :)

Thanks for letting me now it's finished. It's been on my to read list for awhile, but I was waiting for it to be completed, since I'm reading way to many WIP's already.

Date: 2008-12-30 07:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
LOL, I know that feeling. I don't click on WIPs unless I'm really desperate, and then most of them fail to hook me, so I think I'm only following one or three, lol. I think you'll like it. *g*

I just spent my workday reading it. And I completely agree - it was incredible. I found it on the recommendation of roque_clasique, I had seen the summaries on ff.net but that hadn't roped me in. But, let me tell you, once I entered the fic, there was no leaving. Awesome from whoa to go. How hot is spanish-speaking Dean? Yummy!!

Date: 2008-12-30 07:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Haha, i agreee, loved all the spanish speak and just the complexity of it all. Just WOW!

See, you didn't need me to update after all. LOL.

No, nu-uh - I'm not letting you off the hook that easily. Haul your muse off the couch, wrestle the Cheetohs and the TV remote from her hands and tell her I need her to get her ass back to work!

Haha, no Chee-tos here. Though, I think she might have gotten into the Ritz crackers. *tsks*

Thank you, darling!

Don't thank me, sweetie. Just leave lots of love for the author, cuz this is amazing. I'm sure you'll love it. Has lots of Hurt!Dean in it.

You know me well :)

You've read In Reverse, right? Because it's one of the most amazing Supernatural fics ever.

Date: 2008-12-30 07:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Haha, yeah, I totally did. I don't read her anymore, though, cuz I was one of the unfortunate souls who read the first chapter he first day it was posted and believed her when she said it was mostly finished, lOL. Man, the suspense! LOL. Part of the reason I only read completed ficx now.

Now that you mention it, I might have to go back and read that again. Loved the Hurt!Dean in that.

Well, it's finished now. I love that fic to bits. I really need to work on a huge rec list with the less known writers. I'm reading a verse right now I stumbled upon by accident. I really didn't mean to for some reasons, but I was stuck bored at home during Christmas with nothing to read and found out that the fic - all of the writer's work - was way more than meet the eye.

Date: 2008-12-30 08:08 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Ooh, you totally should. I've been finding good ones lately, too. I think it's because I'm burned out on the same stuff over and over again, and new people are coming in with fresh voices, but people already have their faves, so they're not catching on the way they would have if they'd shown up when there was nothing else to read all the way back in season one, ya know?

So, what are you reading? LOL.

Free Falling verse (http://evening-spirit.livejournal.com/tag/free+falling+%27verse) - J2 - beautiful take on mental illness.

The Millionaire's Reluctant Husband (http://house-of-lantis.livejournal.com/tag/master+list+billionaire) - J2 - harlequin kinda fic, very well written.

The Sanctuary (http://house-of-lantis.livejournal.com/11570.html) - J2 AU - vampire verse.

The City (http://house-of-lantis.livejournal.com/tag/city) - J2 AU Sequel to The Sanctuary.

The thing about the last three - all by the author I mentioned before - is that I almost didn't read them. I have a thing about fics with colorful headers/banners - unless they are part of challenges, the banners seem more like a way to compensate for the poor writing (I've seen it happening too many times to ignore it). It's a weird peeve of mine, one that I have to get over because these fic? They are awesome.

Date: 2008-12-30 08:46 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Hahaha, yeah, I've been avoiding the last three, too, because she keeps referring to Jensen as a slut in one of them, and I can't read that, plus the same thing you said, about the banners and the formatting that takes up way more space than all the other posts. I might try the last two, but not the billionaire one. And I don't think I know the first one.

Date: 2008-12-30 09:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] apieceofcake.livejournal.com
Sorry to butt in, but you may like that Millionare one!

He may be referred to as a slut..which put me off, but I've read and enjoyed so far. Yeah he has played around but the idea of the fic was that Jensen had to marry, and marry quickly to get his inheritance and company, but I've liked him, he isn't horrible, and he is redemable

Date: 2008-12-30 09:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Haha, I'm not saying I won't, but there was another recced not too long ago by someone whose opinion I respect very much, but it had the 'd' word in the summary, and I've never been able to read that one either. Stupid mental blocks, LOL. Of course, it helps that when I see something like that, I can tell myself I shouldn't be reading anyway, because I have tons to be working on of my own.

I guess we all have our squicks. LOL. There was a time I read anything and everything, and now I'm damn choosey.

I'll take y'all's word for it, though next time I'm desperate. *winks*

Seriously, the slut comment kinda threw me too, at first, but as I said, I was bored and there was nothing long and good I hadn't read yet. But give it a chance, at least the first chapter, just to try it out. Maybe you'll be positively surprised :)

Heeee! I had just opened it in a window when LJ crashed last night. SToooooped LJ, and when it came back up, I saw you'd recced it, too. I can't agree more. Totally worth it in so many ways.

And it's been an escape for me, too, but what I really need to do is escape into my own stories. *g*

Haha, I thought you had. I was amazed as I was reading, because there were no comments at all for like the first ten chapters. I was like...dude, I'd have quit writing by then, and then when I did see some comments, I saw your name there, so I knew I must be on the right track.

For all I know, the comments might just have been screened on those first bits. I can't believe no one was reading or commenting all that time. *ponders*

i secondmillion this rec!
and seriously, if you're reading it, guys, LEAVE FEEDBACK! i can't figure out why there are like, no comments. *iz so confused*

From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
I know, isn't that weird? I think I read like ten chapters before I saw ANY comments. I have to admit, I don't read WIPs, so I only leave comments at the end, but seriously, if I'd been writing that story and was that far in without a single comment, I'd have quit. I'm waaaay too insecure for that.

*waves* Hi, BTW. We totally need to spread the word, LOL. (Also, I might possibly be reading your drive verse in my spare time. I read a chapter or two as a reward when I finish something I'm working on, but I haven't made it through the first one yet. I have such a smoking!Dean kink.)

Date: 2008-12-30 10:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com
*waves back*
very pleased to meet you!

sadly, that is EXACTLY what i thought when i saw the lack of comments: "I would have so quit by now." but damn, i'm glad she didn't.

you're reading me? *squirms* yay!

and please, please tell me you've written some smoking!dean fic...
*begs*
i hate being the only one because i love it so... can you tell?

Date: 2008-12-30 10:17 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
I have written exactly one smoking!Dean fic way back in season 1, LOL. Sadly, it was only one chapter of the story, but I had a lot of people tell me they memorized that chapter. I took it down, because a lot of the stuff I wrote back then makes me facepalm like crazy. I'm writing some smoking! Jensen right now, but it's not a major part of the story.

As far as comments on that story... I wonder if maybe she didn't screen them? I don't know why she would, but I can't believe NO comments. Yeah, I'd have quit. We all say we do this for ourselves, but that only goes so far when there's fics out there getting lots of comments.

And now I feel totally guilty for only leaving comments at the end. LOL. *makes mental note to stalk your fics again tomorrow*

Date: 2008-12-30 10:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com
you took it DOWN?
*sobs*

and what is "screening" comments? like, deleting them? who DOES that?
*cuddles comments*

and hey... is that you in the picture with jensen?
*roar*
that was the sound of jealousy rearing it's ugly head.

Date: 2008-12-30 10:26 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Oh, screening comments is making them so just the person who posted them and the person who's journal it is can see them. See that little icon in the comment bar next to the delete, freeze and track icons that looks like a little eye? That's the screen option. People will sometimes screen comments if they don't want readers to be spoiled by other commenters or if they have been getting negative comments, or if they don't want people to know who's reading, or if there's inappropriate shenanigans in the comments. LOL. Lots of reasons.

And yeah... *cowers* that is me in the icon with Jensen. It was actually a picture of me and both boys, but when I put us all in the icon together, we were itty bitty, lol.

Sorry I took that fic down, maybe someday I'll just post that one chapter, lol. *grins*

Date: 2008-12-30 10:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Haha, sorry for pouncing on ya, but one of my other commenters said you recced it, too, which made me think, there's gotta be more ways to promote it.

Is it crazy of me to think someone should post a search for it on storyfinders? Seems like every time someone requests something of mine on there, I get a ton of hits.

The tricky part would be asking for it in a way that hits as many reader kinks as possible without spoiling the whole story. *ponders*

Oh, you're not wrong. I'm totally crazy.

Date: 2008-12-30 10:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] roque-clasique.livejournal.com
haha i just sent you a reply...
but funny, it HAS been recced on spnstoryfinders several times, that's where i've found it. and i've since recced it.
but you know what... that's actually a really good idea.
as many reader kinks as possible... powers!dean, disabled!dean, powers!sam, amazing OCs... there's more i'm sure.
you should do it, because as of this morning, i posted on spnstoryfinders THREE TIMES in two hours. i fucking love that com. maybe i'll wait a day and do it, and then you can hop on and be all "I know the fic you're talking about, it's PURE GENIUS"
and then the love will have been spread.

Date: 2008-12-30 10:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Haha, I'm not sure I can do it under this journal since I've already recced it here and one of my friends is a mod there. She'd totally know it's a sham post. Buut, I might have another journal or three.

Hmm, more reader kinks... hurt!Dean, hurt!Sam, spanishSpeaking!Dean, sick!Dean, sick!Sam, Self-sacrificing!Dean, badasshunter!Sam... lol. MOARz.
