I'm just testing the waters here. I know I'd probably get better results by posting these to a few of the classified sites (Would you believe someone once offered me 1800 dollars to shave my head and send him pictures? :S) But anyway, I'm trying to come up with incentives for people to donate to the cause. Not because I need the donations, because I don't, but because it's a good cause. (I don't get this money. It goes directly to the foundation.) So, I thought some fun things like, "If I donate X amount, it counts as a vote for Y result." At the moment, I don't have much to offer, but I saw some fund raising pages where people actually shave their heads for a charity. I do have hair. LOL. Not sure I'd shave my head, but hey, if people were willing to pay to see it, ya never know.

So, anyway, I'm just testing the waters here. Behind the cut, I posted some pics of my hair. Believe me, I'm not this crazy whack job who spends all her time taking pics of herself, LOL. I took these pictures on about 2 separate occasions for just this purpose. Otherwise, I have only pictures of dogs and cats, LOL.

Just so you know, this is not me looking for donations at this point. This is just me wondering if people would actually give money to see my hair come off. LOL. So, if you're brave, peek behind the cut at the pics, and then, if you're not linkophobic, go to our blog and take the poll I posted in the sidebar. That's it. No actual money involved. It's all very hypothetical. Can you do that? *makes puppy eyes*

Now that you've seen the horror, please go to the blog and take the poll. I'm hoping it works for everyone, but I honestly have never done a Blogger poll before, so I don't know. Thanks in advance.

If you do cut your hair for charity, you can donate the hair itself for wigs for chemo/radiation patients too.

I've heard about that. I forgot to put it in the post, but that's most likely what I'd do. Some of the response I got to that on HairTrader.com were negative, they said that Locks of Love only actually makes some of the wigs themselves, and they often sell the hair for the money instead. Which is pretty much what I'd expect to hear on a site where hair is traded for money. LOL. But even if it's true, I don't see where that's a terrible thing. The charity still benefits either directly or indirectly from your donation, right?

All I have to contribute here is, "Wow, you have a lot of hair."

Well, that and: I vote for Locks of Love if you do cut your hair. It's a great organization, imo.

Well, most likely I will donate it if I cut it, but I might not cut it at all, unless people want to see it. LOL.

Hi - I went to the blog but couldn't figure out where the poll is - so I came back here to post my opinion. Your hair is gorgeous and unless you're going to cut it to donate it (true - Locks of Love doesn't give the wigs they make to patients, I've heard they make them pay for them) -but Pantene does a much better job at accepting hair and making it available to those who need it, so check them out.

As someone who has been fundraising for primarily cancer-related events since 2007 (I started my pursuit with the Avon 2-day breast cancer walk in NYC where I had to raise $1,800 individually - proud to say my friend and I each raised over $2,000) - anyway, I digress - but following on the success that the Help Haiti auction did, I think people like to "get" something as part of their bid. I wouldn't donate just for you to cut your hair, but I would donate to get something that I can't get here in CT - could be anything, could be an old book you want to pass along, a piece of jewelry that you don't like, a jar of hot sauce famous from your city - you never know. Anywho, that's my two cents. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, I know what you're saying. However, I do know there are fetish sites out there where people will pay thousands of dollars just to see some long-haired chick get shaved bald. I'm not even going to guess what the motivation behind that is, since I'd probably come off sounding bigoted or something. Needless to say, I don't really want to support the fetishists, but I'd be willing to cut it for the merely curious, or the people who are looking for the courage to do it themselves.

But I get what you're saying. I just don't really have anything people would want, and since I am spending so much time running to train for the race, I don't see myself getting all crafty. I can barely keep up writing the fics I have running now, so an auction type thing is not on the books. But maybe comment fic... hmmmm?

Ooh, and thanks for the heads up on Pantene. I've been wondering if there was an alternative to Locks of Love.

NO your hair is the prettiest hair I have ever seen WHY WOULD YOU CUT IT OFF???

Except, for a good cause, fine... but... so pretty!

Thank you. LOL. It is actually, about the only thing about my appearance that I'm usually happy with. So, yeah, cutting it would be a sacrifice, but that's what charity is about, right? And it is an awful time drain. I do miss being able to take a shower whenever I want to and not having to schedule it with enough time for brushing and drying my hair. :/

LOL. I got it. Would you believe that even your blog comment notification went to my spam box? I think it must be your isp or something. I cannot figure out why only you and maybe one or two other people always go to my spam box no matter how many times I tell my spam handlers that you're not spam.

Also, thank you. *smoosh*

Your hair is so gorgeous, but I gotta ask: How often do you end up with it caught under things, lol?

Date: 2010-03-05 02:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Haha, thank you. And actually, I wear it up almost all the time, in a knot on top of my head. But right after I wash it and it's drying, I do often get things caught in it, like my dog and my cat. OW!

Oh man. That sounds so heavy, haha. I can imagine how painful that might be! Our dog likes to eat and pull in my hair and oh man, not fun.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, don't cut your hair... Or something like that. :-D It's a great thing to do if you go ahead with it. I feel bad I'm only bringing in books and DVDs to sell at work. But hey, every little helps. Your hair so pretty, though.... *pets it in an affectionate and not threateningly-stalker fashion*

So. I had some time to think about this. I didn't fill in the poll, because I couldn't pick an answer; it feels like pressuring you either way. I personally would just rather donate without getting anything in return (although that missing scene offer you posted this week sounds like a lovely incentive;)

I'm sorry about Pippi, hope Bert & Ernie make up for freaking you out *g*

Hey You, I voted but had to clarify that I would give more than $5 for you to keep your hair, it is so beautiful! Still giving to a great cause, but keeping that gorgeous hair on you.

*squishes you*

aww, you're so cute. I have to admit, I'm torn. I miss the freedom of not having the long hair, but I also sometimes feel like it's the only good thing about me, appearance-wise. Maybe cutting it off will be a confidence booster, and maybe it will just make me feel naked and ugly. LOL. But you're adorkable. *hugs*

I can totally live with adorkable status! LOL!

I understand being torn about something like that and the whole self-esteem tied up in complicated knots thing! Definitely a very hard decision! Our egos are such bloody fragile things, it sucks! A whole lot!

*Hugs you cause I think your awesome no matter what you look like*

:D

Weeps at the thought of cutting all that lovely hair! Make shaven head dude pay in advance if you're really willing to do it.

Aww. I've actually had people tell me that I won't be pretty without my hair. Of course, why these people are on Hairtrader.com if they don't want people to cut their hair is beyond me. Definitely not giving shaven head dude the time of day. That fetish creeps me out a little. I'd do it for the charity, though.

Also, Happy birthday! I made a note to myself to PM you, but then I sat down to watch Swap Meat and fell asleep. Story of my life. I hope you had an awesome day. *squish*

Your hair is absolutely glorious, Tracy. How many years have you been keeping it long?

Someone on my flist had her hair shorn a little while back for charity. It was pretty successful, it got into the papers and all ( http://www.justgiving.com/Ruth-Eyles/ ) and I'm very sure that yours ( if you were going for it ) is going to be successful too. Good luck!

You have hair that I envy. Wow.

As for cutting it/shaving, I think that's up to you. It would certainly make a great donation for wigs if you do cut it off.

But I've already donated, so the question about incentives is kind of irrelevant for me ;)

Hey Tracy, I took the poll a few days ago, just never got round to commenting. Anyway, I'd pay $5 and more for you to keep those gorgeous locks. Your hair is stunning long =)
