I got bitten by dogs again while running. Same dogs. Same neighbors. Dan's kinda pissed.

I love dogs, but my patience is wearing thin. :/

Hard to tell, but that's about an inch and a half across high up on my calf just below my knee. Little bugger. :S

And then I came back to find this:

I think maybe the universe is conspiring to make me a cat person.

oooo ouch... is the dog healthy though? I mean it isn't going to give you anything is it?

Awww kitty... what's his name...

From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Yeah, the dog's healthy. The owners might be ignorant about keeping them under control, but they're on good terms with the vet. LOL.

And that kitty's name is Charlie Brown, but I tend to call him Chuck.

ETA: Are those pics really huge to you? Because I resized them, and I don't know if I'm just seeing the cached images or if the resizing didn't take.

That's good... well not that they won't control them but that you know they are healthy. Still... don't they sell some sort of deterrent whistle or something?

and Chuck's are wider than you layout...

Hmm, I could swear I fixed that sizing. Gonna have to try again. LOL.

I think a whistle would just make them crazier. They do make doggie mace, but I don't want to have to use that. All my neighbors have loose dogs. They'd probably retaliate.

My cousin used to have problems with her neighbors dog chasing her on her bicycle. I think she used something like this. http://www.lowguys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=pestcontroldeluxe&Product_Code=DAZX&Category_Code=Outdoorpestcontrol

Thank you! That looks perfect. Usually when there's just one of the little buggers, the keep their distance, but when they get together there's a definite pack mentality and they just will not stop. I think this might work.

And the good thing is that you don't physically do anything to the dog.

You may be able to find one cheaper as well....

Rofl, I love the cat. He's all like "Rub me now!"

I'm sorry about the dog biting you. A nice strongly worded letter should do the trick. And the threat of a gun. Not the dog, the idiots who own him.

The sad thing is, I know the owners were home. They live in a little mobile home right off the road and had to have heard all the barking and growling, but they never even came out to see if I was okay, like if they didn't see it, it didn't happen. And stupid me, I was just looking at my watch and thinking they were ruining my pace. LOL.

From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
LOL, that cat is a card. I've never known a cat that was born and raised outside that just insists it belongs on your lap all the time. The other day he started licking my face like a dog, and when I was sleeping, he put his head on my head and draped his paw over my shoulder. LOL. I dunno what's up with him.

And I'm kind of afraid to start anything with my neighbors since they're not the only ones who let their dogs run loose on my street. We never had any problems as neighbors until I started running, and I can't help but think I should just go the other way. At the same time, I shouldn't have to avoid the road I live on. :/

You shouldn't have to avoid your own road. Its not like your in the neighbors yard with meatloaf tied to your legs.

I'm sorry you got bit by a dog on your run. That sucks...and hurts, no doubt.

Speaking as a cat person, though, there is no other animal on the face of the planet that can look cuter/more content while sleeping than a cat. Your photos are adorable.

Just sayin'.

cats are much better. They don't slobber all over you. And they know how to use a litter box.

LOL, you must have missed the post where I caught my dog using the cat box. LOL. He didn't wanna go out in the cold. And this cat has started licking my face like a dog, but you're right, there's no slobber. LOL. Actually, it's very scratchy. :D

I know what you mean, but it's pretty standard around here for people to let their dogs run loose since there's almost no traffic on this road. Funny, the people with pits and wolf hybrids keep them chained or behind a fence, but people with 'friendly' dogs would sooner blame me for running by and agitating the little buggers. (And I might be stupid enough to almost agree. :/)

If the dogs are leaving the property to attack you, I'd say you're being kind of cavalier about it. Not sure where you live, but most places have some kind of leash laws. You do have the right to access a public road without being assaulted. I think I'm angrier than you are!

Date: 2010-02-10 10:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
Yeah, I'm pretty cavalier now, but at the time, I was pretty near tears, because there really was nothing I could do that would've deterred them, since they were just all in a pack and hyper-excited. Ugh. It was not fun, but then I looked at my watch and decided I wasn't going to let them ruin my pace, couldn't do much about my pride at that point. :/

Maybe if you threatened to sue them, they would change their minds about letting the dogs run loose. I know some states have a 3 strikes law for biting dogs. After the third bite, they are considered dangerous to humans, and the owners can be made to surrender them for euthanasia as well as found negligent and made to pay damages. I know you probably wouldn't want that to happen, but the neighbors won't know that, and you could put the fear of God into them.

I know you're probably right, but these are sweet little senior-type people, and they've lived here forever. Yes, I could force them to change their ways, but there's no doubt I'd be the bad guy for doing so. It's a tough call. :S

Good grief, that's scary. And looks painful. I do understand about not wanting to provoke the neighbors, though. That's never a good plan, even if they don't attempt to control their animals. I vote for one of those thingies [livejournal.com profile] ldyghstwhisprer linked to. Man, be safe, okay?

It was scary at the time. I actually teared up a little, not because I was afraid or in pain, but because I really didn't have any recourse to make the dogs let go and go home. I think I finally just got far enough away from their property that they figured they'd done their job. And I'm definitely gonna look into that whistley thing.

Date: 2010-02-10 02:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vanae.livejournal.com
Uhm, now, I realise that the owners are the ones who are at fault here (the dogs shouldn't run loose and there's obviously been no proper training) but those dogs should probably be put down. Most of the time there really is no going back on stuff like this... next thing you'll know they're gonna bring down a child.

Anyway, ouch. Please be careful!

I know what you mean, but they're just little dogs, and they're usually not so brave when they're not all loose together. It's usually just one loose at a time. I don't know why they had them all loose yesterday. :/

I know you're an animal lover but I know in the UK, if an dog bites someone the owner can be taken to court. If the dog makes a habit of it it can be taken away and destroyed. Unfair, true, but there are a lot of cases of dogs mauling kids and really irresponsible owners.

I think most dogs - like kids - are good. It's their upbringing that sucks.

x Take care hon, I bet you didn't realise running was so dangerous.

That's true here, too. And I know half the problem with this situation is that these people raise a couple litters of pups every year to sell, and this time they haven't sold them all, so now there is a pack of them around instead of just the one or two they usually have. And when they get together... yeesh. I don't really know what to do except hope they sell the rest of their puppies.

Yes, they do. Especially out in the country where there's little traffic, and everyone knows everyone else and everyone's dogs. I, personally, get panicky if I can't see my dog inside my fenced yard, but that's me. :/ Definitely getting a dog spooker. LOL.

I was JUST thinking about you today, fyi.

Dude!!! WTF was it? A hellhound?? Is it going to be ok and why the hell don't the owners do something?? I hope you're ok!!!!

And seriously...how frickin' adorable is the furball? Lol.

From: [identity profile] tru-faith-lost.livejournal.com
LOL @Hellhound. Nope. Just toy fox terriers. :/ Toy Fox Terrors. *nods* I dunno why they don't take responsibility. They're old and can't take the dogs for walks, so they just let 'em run loose. The buggers also come over to the barn and chase our cats, and we live a quarter mile away.

I was thinking about you, too. How's grad school, love?

Also, I'm at work, so I might not reply promptly.
