LJ land is really slow today... yes?
I'm officially pathetic. I have nothing worthwhile to post about, but I am in a compulsive posting state of mind.
So, let me ask this. Is anyone else sorta afraid of what they'll do on LJ when Supernatural is done? Because, ya know, I've tried watching other comms and such. I watch
equestrian and
sf_drama and blah, blah, a few others that are not Supernatural related, but...
Here's what I don't get. I tried watching
ohnotheydidnt and I prolly spelled that wrong, so that link probably wont' take you anywhere, lol. And I hear how it's so popular and I get linked there at least once a week. So, I tried to watch it. For a week, I scrolled past every single entry looking for stuff that actually interested me, and not a darned thing interested me AT ALL. How can I not care about anything else but Supernatural?
I mean, I can't pick the Jonas brothers out of a lineup. I don't care about Miley Cyrus or that Hayden Pantiliner chick... I don't know anything about the movies that are coming up or other shows. I'm so out of the loop, it's not even funny. And this from a kid who grew up reading the National Enquirer from one end to the other. My grandma subscribed to it, for chrissakes. When did I lose interest in everything else? Urgh.
Anyone else get the feeling the world had better just end before Supernatural because there will be nothing to do after it's gone? LOL. I feel so pathetic. Do not laugh. I know its sick. *is ashamed*

LJ is pretty much where I spend most of my online time, and only in SPN forums. And I'm pretty sure I keep watching so that I understand fics better. lol
Unfortunately, gen fics are a dying race. I've trying watching the chuck fandom, but it's all slash. *is sad*
When Show is over, I'm gonna have to read books again...

Is there life after SPN? Specifically life on LJ?
I imagine (and hope) a lot of us will continue to post things about the show long after it ends. We can also continue to follow the careers of the boys and whatever they go into next. I'm sure our flists will all get a little leaner, but I really hope I won't lose too many people. We do have some other things in common besides SPN.
All I know right now, is that I don't have to worry about this until May of 2010. I've never been this involved in a TV show in my life and I know once it ends I will be one very sad fangirl. I know it'll totally trump when Quantum Leap ended. I was depressed for almost a week after that one.

I remember life after Buffy and Angel. It was a sad time. Livejournal was mostly used for rl stuff, which wasn't all that exciting. And then there was Heroes, which overlapped into Supernatural, and the rest was history. I think if you stick around long enough, you stumble onto some other fandom that interests you.

Haha I agree :-)
No honestly, I've been in the LOTR fandom before and after the last film, the fandom started to follow the actors careers, so some fans became fans of Orlando Bloom, others of Elijah Wood and so on. And these fandoms are still activ because the actors still work on other stuff.
I guess the fandom will get devided into a Jared and a Jensen fandom - even more than it alread is. It's sad but I'm sure this is going to happen.

But... but... if the world ends FIRST then we'll never know what happens to our boooooooooooys!!!!!!! ;D
Honestly, soomit else will come along that holds your interest sufficiently. I first got onto LJ because practically all of my RL mates were on here (and Usenet was all but dead, murdered by the creation of the worldwide web *sniff*). I stumbled into LOTR fandom as a lurker, then stumbled further into Potterverse and participated there in my first ever actual "fandom". Terrifying. :D When I first got into SPN I remember telling my pal
We'll follow the boys' careers in other things and we'll stumble from one thing to another. And we'll talk about how much we miss the best show ever made in the entire history of ever. *watery smile*
Thing is, even as people move in and out of various fandoms, the actual connections we make with each other are lasting. I'm talking about the folk we're lucky enough to truly click with, folk we find more in common with than JUST the fact we like the same tv show or have similar ideas about what a fine-lookin' man should look like. ;)
There's a band of friends I made through writing Snarry fics in Potter fandom who have become some of my very closest friends (they started as my fangirls! heeee!), not just online but in RL as well. They're the folks that I found soomit ELSE to talk about. That's what friends are, after all, people you can talk to about any old thing. And there are few things more boring than a conversation which gets no further than
"OMG! CUTE!"
"I concur. VERY cute. So... what else can we talk about?"
" ... "

Even after SPN finishes, I'll still be hanging around following Jensen and Jared's careers and generally being creepy and writing slash. I think even if I end up a published author, I would find it a task to give up writing little snippets of fic online because... well, you don't get this community anywhere else, you don't get this kind of support and, in a really selfish way, I love how there are no rules as to what I write/how I write when I'm being my LJ self. This place allows for a freedom of form that is lacking in the real world.
So. Um. I'll survive if the fandom goes under when the show ends. But I'll be like... sad? And lonely. :( Let's huddle together and think good thoughts!
(forgive me. It's 8.30 in the morning. I'm not coherent.)

There's this commercial on tv over here lately which includes a poetry contest and at the end there's this...girl who's all like "The winner gets to write a song with me!" - which makes me think maybe I should know her if they don't even bother to spell out her name, but for the life of me I have no idea whatsoever who she is. And Jonas Brothers? I doubt I've ever heard a song of them, much less seen them. What are they? The new Hansons?

What are they? The new Hansons?
YES. :)
Except... even worser. If you can believe such a thing. *shudders*

I watch a lot of TV shows, but my main obsessions right now are SPN, BSG and NCIS. Beside this, not much. And SPN is top of the list!
BSG is coming to an end already, soon *cries* I`m standing by, watching 3 years of my Life going down the drain *cries more*.
After SG-1 was cancelled, I was waiting for the gound to open, so I could jump and leave everyting behind. And although I was kind of obssesed with SG-1 also at one point, it never was a bad as it was with SPN.
But I still follow the SG-1 fandom, for all the Cons, Graphics, Vids and FanFictions.
Farscape, the Show came to an end in, what? 2004? The fandom is still active, and we even have a new FS LJ Comm, to keep the show, and the fandom, alive.
I`m sure I`ll NEVER leave SPN behind. I`m kind of addicted to FanFictions, I wouldn`t miss reading new ones, even after the show was over and done with.
But I know, from experience, and esp. because the SPN fandom tends to splitt itself already, it will be hard to follow.
I`m sure I`ll never, ever, get this deep into another show, or fandom, like with SPN. Never!
And I at one point I really thought my active online life will come to an end after SPN. But I`ll never leave the fandom for real, because of all I mentioned above. And I will not let go of all the awesome people I meet inside the SPN Fandom, and LJ. And I`m sure I`m going to follow the actors, like I did with SG-1 and Farscape all those years, and I will do with BSG also.
But, SPN is my one and only true love, and I don`t see another show taking its place.

I have several sociological areas I'm interested in, some earth sciences, and have done a little exploring into LJ communities discussing those interests. I haven't joined any yet, but that's always a possibility. "Pottering" interests--gardening, collections, lifestyles, I already belong to a few of those. And I adore good writing wherever I find it, whether it's fanfic or memoir, fiction or social commentary, opinion or biography. LJ offers a lot besides fandom.
I have always been active in one fandom or a few, but fandom hasn't been my only online experience, and I don't expect it to be that way in the future.
I have probably gotten deeper into SPN fandom than any other, simply because of the availability of fic, meta, insta-rec, photos, video, on the instant. The end of the first-run episodes is going to lose a lot of people who'll move on to the next thing. But I think the characters and our love for them will sustain discussion and writing for years to come. The flavor of the flist may change, the population of it shrink some, but I don't expect it to disappear altogether.
And just think of all the crossover fodder with shows that haven't even gotten beyond concept stage at this point--I'm practically salivating and rubbing my hands together at that thought!
